KUNDA DIXIT

With just a month to go to finish writing the new constitution that will carve Nepal into federal units and decide on a new form of government, President Yadav is on a personal crusade to drive home the message of unity, democracy and development. On New Year's Day last Friday, he went on a tour of central Nepal, speaking about the need to preserve national unity and peace.

Think twice before using the word 'Crusade', it is not a nice word historically and lets not try to give it a positive connotation.

On a personal drive, on a personal effort will do it.

The President is a joke. Apparently, the 'unity' factor comes into play each time the rest of the country begins to question the sanity of having an expensive institution with a president and a vice-president who are more renowned for their next of kins opening up NGOs that unification of the country.

quite frankly, for someone holding the highest ceremonial position in the country, the president is by and large disappointing.

but then, for someone who became the President of the country not because he was capable enough but because of  the ego war between prachanda and girija, what can we expect ?

and for god sake, someone please enlighten me as to what the VP is doing these days.

If the President is visiting places and embarking (or at least attempting) on a drive for unity - he has done exactly what he should be doing. Too much of bigotry and pessimism have flooded in the past, so at this point when things look relatively positive, his action to reaffirm unity is the right way to go. Perhaps I am too optimistic at this point, but I think the President role's is actually perfect and transcends beyond the party and ethnic ideology - two elements that are the greatest risks for Nepal at this point.

Mr Kunda Dixit's use of the word'crusade' is apt and nice. Time has modified the meaning of words. Now 'crusade' also implies any vigorous, determined and dedicated action, campaign or movement in favour of a cause.
