The remarks appeared to be an effort to justify the use of excessive violence in putting down the protests. A demonstration in Banepa to protest the killing of Bhimsen Dahal, the UML activist killed in an army shooting in Pokhara on Saturday, turned violent and one person was killed and three injured when police opened fire on rampaging crowds.
In Kathmandu, the hotspots were Satdobato, Gopi Krishna Hall, Ghattekulo and Gongabu. The northern section of the Ring Road up to Chabahil was a war zone with barricades made up of stones, burning tyres and car chassis dragged out from garages. Kiritpur remained tense with confrontation continuing between defiant demonstrators and police backed up by soldiers riding armoured personnel carriers.
Meanwhile the seven party coordination committee said today the pro-democracy movement would continue on Monday until our goal is reached .
