Interim constitution coming

The government and the CPN-Maoists will be jointly looking at the draft interim constitution on 25 August. According to Home Minister Krishna Sitaula the decision to proceed was taken after the cabinet today approved of Monday's agreement between the government and the Maoist party to hold a joint discussion.

The agreement is to proceed with the draft interim constitution if both sides do not come to a political understanding surrounding several issues. Disagreements on whether to declare Nepal a republic state in the draft interim constitution as demanded by the CPN-Maoist or to let the decision rest on the constituent assembly as asked by the other political parties, besides questions about the process of weapons management are among the points where conclusions have not been reached. The decision was announced by Home Minister Sitaula to the coordinator of the Interim Constitution Drafting Committee Chief Justice Laxman Prasad Aryal.
