Women, Dalits in local polls

Across Nepal, there are many women – most from minority groups like Dalits – who are going to have a chance at governing.

Election fever

Excitement for local polls is building up across Nepal even as the constitution amendment bill looks unlikely to be endorsed

With or without

The common people in Birganj are not that concerned about the amendment. But they will not vote if there is fear of violence.

No date for elections

The 67th National Democracy Day was observed in subdued fashion but Prime Minister Dahal didn’t announce a fixed date for local elections in his Democracy day speech as it was rumoured.

Election dates, not elections

PM Dahal needs to show he wants elections, otherwise the NC and UML could gang up against him.

Electing local bodies

The government is reluctant to endorse the report on local bodies, fearing that Madhesi parties will harden their stand on amending the Constitution

“That was then”

“If that idea works now, why was it not accepted when we were in power?”
