Khanal and Oli factions of CPN-UML have finally reached a consensus after a year-long bickering . The two factions were fighting over leadership issues, and also over the party’s position regarding the Maoists. The Kathmandu Post writes about the new consensus:

High level dealings
More details have emerged from Monday’s High Level Political Mechanism meeting. Nepali Congress president, Girija Prasad Koirala, asked the Maoist leaders to abandon their “anti-India campaign”, which Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal refused. From The Kathmandu Post:

Banda called off
An update: The Maoist party has agreed to withdraw the indefinite strike supposed to have begun on Sunday. The High Level Political Mechanism meeting on Tuesday had urged the Maoist leaders to withdraw the banda. Maoist leaders are expected to make an official statement about the withdrawal later today.
A grudging welcome
The UML and Maoists have been at loggerheads over whether to include the prime minister in the High Level Political Mechanism. Despite continued opposition from the Maoists, NC and UML leaders Girija Prasad Koirala and Jhalanath Khanal have decided to make the PM a “permanent-invitee member.” The Himalayan Times reports:
