Prime Minister Sushil Koirala is scheduled to leave for India on 26 May 26 to participate in the oath taking ceremony of the Indian Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi.

“A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday prepared an itinerary for the PM’s visit to India,” said Dr Minendra Rijal, government spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communications.

“PM Koirala is scheduled to hold talks on bilateral relations with the Indian PM-elect Modi and other political leaders after attending the ceremony,” the Minister added.

Indian PM-elect Modi has invited leaders of all South Asian countries to take part in the oath taking ceremony. Along with Nepal, leaders of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, the Maldives and Pakistan are also invited, along with leaders from other countries.

This is the first time that an Indian PM-elect has invited high-level foreign dignitaries in the swearing in ceremony. Around 3,000 domestic and international guests have been invited to attend the ceremony to be held in the Indian capital of New Delhi.

Modi, the parliamentary party leader of India’s key opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has secured a comfortable 282-seats majority in the 543-member House.

Modi’s alliance of political parties, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), alone has secured 337 seats in the House, according to Election Commission of India.
