Leaders from the ruling alliance and the opposition could not come to an agreement regarding the next electoral government, and have decided to resume talks on Tuesday after Monday evening's discussions at Shital Niwas proved unfruitful.
Intense talks on Monday morning had seen the four major parties agree to hold elections within 29 May. But they were as divided as before as to who should lead the government that would oversee the polls.
The UCPN(M) followed up on its general convention's conclusion that incumbent Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi be made prime minister but the opposition did not agree to the idea of merging the judiciary and executive.
Monday's meeting held at President Ram Baran Yadav's office thus proved inconclusive, and the parties decided to meet again at Shital Niwas on Tuesday to reach a consensus.
