Election first

Speaking at the seventh general convention of UCPN(Maoist) in Hetauda on Saturday, chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal urged opposition parties to create an environment for election. Dahal added that a government under an independent candidate could be formed to conduct election. “If the leadership of an independent candidate is acceptable to all, we could go to polls,” said Dahal.

Blaming the opposition for the political deadlock, Dahal said, “They refused to join the incumbent government despite being offered the Home Ministry and leadership of high political offices.”

Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai echoed chairman Dahal’s views, stressing on election. “Government leadership isn’t a big deal as long as the country can go to polls this May,” said Bhattarai.

The general convention is being held first time in 22 years and will continue for the next five days.
