As the political deadlock over the electoral government gets tougher, one of India’s senior leaders who has considerable clout among Nepal’s political parties is in town. Member of India’s upper house and Congress leader Karan Singh arrived in Kathmandu on Friday to extend invitation to President Ram Baran Yadav who is being felicitated by Banaras Hindu University with an honorary degree.

However, Singh has been busy holding meetings with top NC, UML and Maoists leaders. He is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai,President Ram Baran Yadav and former King Gyanendra Shah before leaving for New Delhi on Saturday. “ Clearly, he is not on a sight-seeing mission.”, says analyst Shyam Shrestha about Singh’s high profile parleys.

Singh, who has strong relationship with RPP leader Pashupati Shamsher Rana met with senior NC, UML , RPP,Maoists and the Madhesi leaders at the dinner reception organised at Rana’s residence on Friday. The arrival of Singh at such a crucial period in Nepal’s transition, even under the given pretext, indicates towards New Delhi’s growing anxiety over fluid situation in Nepal.
