The Great Himalaya Trail- Climate Smart Celebrity Trek (GHT-CSCT) led by Apa Sherpa who has scaled Mt. Everest 21 times so far has come to an end on Friday with the team finally arriving at Darchula district’s Khalanga. Apa and his team, among whom are Everest summiter Dawa S. Sherpa and journalist Saurav Dhakal, travelled from eastern Taplejung district to far western Darchula carrying a national flag handed to them by President Ram Baran Yadav in Kathmandu on January 13.

The trek  was supposed to end on May 13 but was shortened to 97 days because bad weather forced the team to take lower trails in the sections between Bajura and Bajhang district. GHT pic

“Everybody is in good shape and i am happy all of us made it safely,” Saurav Dhakal told Nepali Times over phone from Darchula. The team will camp by Mahakali river on Indo-Nepal border tonight and reach Dhangadi tomorrow before flying back to Kathmandu on Sunday. “It’s been a long and wonderful journey, full of experiences that I am eager to share, but for now food and good rest is all I can think of,” says Dhakal.
