PM meets heads of state

Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, who is attending the 66th general assembly of the United Nations (UN), called on UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and United States (US) President Barak Obama last night.

The leaders discussed the matters pertaining to the peace and constitution-making processes of Nepal, informed Prime Minister’s personal secretary Ganga Shrestha.

During the meeting with UN Secretary-General moon, Prime Minister Bhattarai apprised him on the progress made on peace and constitution-drafting process, Shrestha added.

On a query by the Secretary-General, Prime Minister Bhattarai said he was opting to move ahead by building consensus among all the political parties of Nepal.

Prime Minister Bhattarai while attending a reception hosted by the US President had a brief meeting with President Obama, centered on the peace process of Nepal.

Similarly, the Prime Minister also called on Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakchhe and Bhutanese Prime Minister Jigme Thinley the same night. During the meeting with the Sri Lankan President, the two leaders discussed about the possible collaboration for the development of Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha. Issue of Bhutanese refugees in Nepal was dwelt on during the meeting with the Bhutanese Prime Minister. At the meeting, Bhutanese Prime Minister Thinley expressed readiness to bring back the Bhutanese nationals by adopting out verification process again.
