The sixth Loktantra Day was celebrated with much fanfare today amid a programme organized at Tundikhel.
The program was attended by President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, Vice-President Parmananda Jha, Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal, Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha, CA chairman Subas Nembang, deputy prime ministers Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Bharat Mohan Adhikari, ministers, CA members, top government officials, heads of constitutional bodies and diplomats among others.
Nepal Army personnel delivered a feu-de-joie on the occasion and Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, scouts and students took part in march-past. Cultural rallies and several games were also performed.
On the occasion, President Yadav provided a sum of Rs. 300,000 to Dipak Maharjan, the bronze medal winner in the 16th Asian Games, and separate prizes to the winners of the folk song competition.
PM Khanal said that all the political parties and people’s representatives should be active to promulgate the democratic constitution as per the wishes of the people and reiterated his government's commitment to complete the peace process.
Saying peace and constitution were the main bases for the country’s prosperity and development, Khanal added there is no alternative to successfully complete the nation’s present goal of new constitution and lasting peace.
