Losing streak

Monday, August 23rd, 2010
..................................................................................................................

The losing streak continues for the candidates vying for the post of prime minister, with the conclusion of the fifth round of voting Monday.

Neither of the candidates, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal or NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel, secured a simple majority in this afternoon’s election. Dahal secured 246 votes, while Paudel only managed 124, both well short of the majority vote of 301. The UML and the Madhesi alliance, which have a critical role in deciding who becomes the prime minister, stayed neutral in today’s election, as they have done previously. The UML has been urging the Maoists and NC to withdraw their candidacies and begin a new process to find a consensus candidate for the post. Existing house regulations stipulate that voting will continue until a PM is elected through a clear majority, or until one of the candidates back out.

All other reports show 246 for Dahal, not 213.

  2. Kamal Kishor on Says:

The only one alternative left is for both candidate to withdraw and start a new process of election.

If Maoists have achieved anything by deciding to field Dahal, ignoring the facts and realities of rebuffs from other parties was frustration at local levels. If they thought that by fielding Dahal, they are going to re-energies their base, it has proved to be completly day-dreaming. Instead they made it clear that Dahal won’t be a new PM and by that he lost his face and it will generate a new wave of frustration to those who were hoping of using state authority to provide relief to the base. It has been proved four times that Dahal does not have any magic powers left to manipulate other parties.

The only alternative left for them is to field Bhattarai or Mahara.

  3. K. K. Sharma on Says:

As per the regulation, the process of PM election should continue. As per the Agreements, the so-called peace process should continue. As per Goit and Jwala Singh the process of insurgency should continue. As per the beneficiaries, the process of extortions should continue. As per the YCL, the process of their wayward ways should continue. As per the effete SPA the process of appeasement of the Maoists should continue. As per India, the process of the visit of their emissaries should continue. And of course the process of inflation is to continue. So the process of the suffering of the people will continue.

The enthusiasts of New Nepal seem simply to love PROCESSES.

These 601 thugs should be locked up in a room till they draft a new constituion. They were elected to write a new constitution but are receiving our hard earned tax money to sleep at their jobs. The current so called leaders will never take Nepal forward. There should be total wipe out of these leaders. Country’s interest should come before partie’s interest.

  6. Budabaaje on Says:

What should happen now is that these thug politicians and the failed 601 assembly should be wiped out. The “experiment” of “New Nepal” is over. We should go back to 2005 when Gyanendra was trying to hold parliamentary elections, and revive the 1990 Constitution. We were better off with Monarchy under 1990 Constitution than in this “banana republic” with never-to-be-written Constitution.
