CA term to be extended

Friday, May 28th, 2010
..................................................................................................................

The three major political parties have agreed to extend the term of the Constituent Assembly by a year, according to Nepali Congress Spokesperson Arjun Narsingh KC.

Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal will resign as part of the deal, KC said. The three parties came to an agreement just an hour before the term of the Constituent Assembly was due to expire.

It is unclear when Nepal will hand his resignation. KC said he will resign at an appropriate time after paving way for a national government.

The meeting of the legislative-parliament, to vote on the extension, began 20 minutes before midnight on Friday. Maoist leader Dev Gurung and Sadbhavana Party leader Sarita Giri withdrew their parties’ objection to the government bill seeking extension of the CA term.

UPDATE: The parliament has passed the government bill to extend the CA by 580 – 5 votes.

Congratulations! Ultimately, it is the victory of people. The whole process of extension exposed Dahal’s and gangs lust for power.

It was clear that after Dahal did not fulfill people’s mandate by quitting a coalition government led by him, they realized their mistake. Their calculation that they could coerce other parties to succumb to their dictation and they could have monopoly of power went wrong. After three months of Mukune govt, they realized that their dream evaporated in the air.

They knew that they could not survive political turmoil they forced into Nepalese political paradigm without misuse of government power and Makune should be thanked for putting up a very strong case against the Maosists’ dictation. It clearly revealed that Maoists are not interested to write a constitution in consultation with other parties. Their motive right from the beginning was to grab the power, dismantle other political institutions and parties, weaken Nepalese Army and then go into the same path Mugabe took. But more than one year of Makune government exposed their invincibility, supremacy in political game, and eroded their mass base. The maosists are down sized to some extent. The game of fear that the Maoists might go back to jungle just did not click. No body now believes it. People are now clear that without political muscle through misuse of government resources Maoists won’t be able to survive has been clearly revealed.

On the whole, Nepalese have stood out against the Maoists. Congratulations!

CA term extended by one year.
Another good news, Makune has agreed to resign paving the way for a coalition government hopefully including the Maosists. Thanks Makune; you have done a great service to Nepal by not succumbing to the Maoists and other henchmen in your party.

What is the next best move: form a government including the Maoists but without Dahal and Baburam. If there is another softspoken Maoists leader, he should lead the Maoists in the government. We know how corrupt Dahal and Baburam are. They are expert in plundering natural resources for their own benefits. Their lust for power should be exposed and denied.

Makune has played a significant role in curtailing , downsizing maoists. He should be given some other responsibilities of national importance. The fact that he was able to groups together such a diverse government for more than a year speaks itself.

Jhale, Dahal, Baburam, Sushil should not be given PM post.

  3. Dukhi Nepali on Says:

Most incompetent government we have ever had; Madhav Nepal must resign immediately henceforth. WHAT WAS THE USE OF EXTENDING IT FOR ONE YEAR? This was only to ensure the salaries and allowances for the nothing doing 601 Consitituent Assembly members. Max should have 6 months extension. If they could not do it in two years, what makes you think that they will do it in one more year extension.

Even if it was extended, it should have been without the salaries and allowances of CA members for more than three months and that would have done the trick.

Yes, as the main opposition leader Dahal is also responsible for it, but Madhav Nepal must take the full responsibility and RESIGN immediately. He has taken the country to futher deeper hole.

I hope that Nepali Times will express its outrage to Madhav Nepal continuing in power. Kanak Disit’s earlier said it is all for ONE MAN, but that ONE MAN now is Madhav Kumar Nepal who runs the government at the indication of prabhu.

I am continually further shocked that Nepali Times and Himal Khabar Patrika does not say much or anything about the state of Nepali press being had by Dhamala. It is a shame that he still yields the power in the nepali media with the support of Sujata.

Nepalese Politicians practice the same thing regularly with the same method and we Nepalese keep expecting the different results. Though it’s a good news that they have extended the time to draft the constitution but still the cloud of uncertainty keeps hovering in Nepalese sky. Now it’s time to see who is going to lead ahead. Personally i don’t see any leader who can bring the difference over here and i am still uncertain will they ever be successful to shoulder up the responsibilities? Now its the right time for every party to perform better and win the heart of Nepalese citizens if they want to win the next public election. For now lets seat back and watch; as you never know what sort of drama is going to take place over here. Please save this nation….

I agree with the views expressed by Dukhi Nepali. One main reason that motivated NC, UML and Maoists decided to extend the CA term is to continue to givethe salaries to CA members. Nembang and Nimabar Acharya also MUST resign if they have any conscience left on them. Are they not incharge of the CA and therefore constitution making?

IF THEY WANT TO KEEP THEIR SELF RESPECT AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, THEY SHOULD NOT DRAW ANY SALARY AND BENEFITS WHILE HOLDING THE POSTS IN THE EXTENDED ONE YEAR.

Will the Nepali media follow up on it? I doubt it since almost all of them are DAHI CHIURE.

  8. Bhola Nath Nepali on Says:

OK…the best news is that the Maoist, who are nothing but thugs, the Maoist who dupe innocent Nepali villagers and themselves live like kings, the Maoist
who should all be hanged for the crimes against the Nepali people and Nepali nation – thank God, at least they have ben cut to their size. Maoist, who use
brute force and murder people, they all should be killed for their atrocious crimes. Anyway, a message to the Indians, I hope you have learnt your lesson in deal with choor prachande and daku baburame…. listen Indians in Delhi,
if there is no peace in Nepal, thn there will be no peace in India. Get it.

    Jai, Jai, Jai, Nepal

  10. arun on Says:

constitution or no constitution Nepal will remain the same backward and poor nation as long as the bahuns are at the helm of national affairs. One can not expect any thing better from the ever quarreling bahuns. In fact politics of Nepal is nothing but struggle for power among the bahuns.Their ambitions have destroyed this great nation.Jai Bahuns!!
