Maoists reject CA term extension

Thursday, May 27th, 2010
..................................................................................................................

A day before the term of the Constituent Assembly expires, and despite the hope of the government, the Maoists  have refused to extend its term until their conditions are met.

“We will not vote for the extension unless peace and constitution are ensured,” Maoist spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma said after the party’s standing committee meeting on Thursday.

Sharma reiterated the party’s condition that the current government should step down to make way for a Maoist-led administration. “It has become meaningless even to continue talks under the current circumstances,” he said.

Sharma also said the party would not extend the tenures of the president and the CA chairman.

CA should be dismissed. If extended, one year later, they will have the same situation to get the things done right. All these idiots should go and a new team should come. May it be Maoists majority, we can not afford this CA. Nepal Army should be used to carry out the election to foil the YCL’s intimidation, threat, and kidnapping. Anyway, Maoists will have no say in Terai Belt, because they have already lost their moral support, and now mid hills: Khas Samaj should work hard to demoralize Maoists, and upper hills where the majority of these Maoist proposed ethnic states have monopoly will continue to support Maoists. In these biased areas, Nepal does not exists, there exists is very biased solo racial hatred groups who can not be educated, and they have greed and selfish definition of “WE” “YOU” and “HE” culture. Let them send Maoists as their representatives. Khas Samaj should work hard so that Maoists can be foiled. It is time to redefine what is Nepal.

Typically the Nepali Times headline blames the Maoists. The other anti-Maoist english language media are more sophisticated with headlines closer to the truth for the same news:

MyRepublica “Maoists reiterate conditions for CA extension”,

eKantipur “Maoists say no to CA extension before govt leave office”,

nepal news “No extension of CA term under current circumstances: UCPN (M)”,

The Himalayan “Maoists say no to CA extension until PM quits”.

But for Nepali Times, it is impossible to even mention what the others must do for a CA extension. The headline HAS to be “Maoists reject CA term extension”.

There has been no change in the Maoist position that they want to actually finalize the peace and constitution instead of continuing more years of MKN refusing to do so.

Nobody expects the anti-Maoist media to write a headline “MKN continues to do nothing”. But why is Nepali Times the ONLY one that cannot even mention the Maoists require something to be done?

I don’t think the bias requires any conscious effort by Nepali Times to compose a more anti-Maoist headline than the others. It just flows instintively and effortlessly from their mindset. The previous articles were always telling the Maoists what they “MUST” do and the future articles will be blaming Maoists for not obeying these commands. So the proper headline for events in between simply comes naturally.
