There are no signs of consensus among the three parties yet. On Tuesday evening, Maoist cadre organised a “gherao” program in Kathmandu by forming a human chain in Ring Road to encircle the capital.
There are reports that some Maoist protestors are leaving for their villages to plant crops following the showers in the last couple of days. The government has said it will provide transport to those who want to return to their villages.
Here, we present some pictures from the streets in the Kathmandu on the third day of the indefinite strike. PHOTOS: PRATIK KARKI and KIRAN PANDAY

Let them protest and sooner or later they are going to run out of food and water and they will be forced to disband else the people affect as a result of bandh are going to get so agitated that they will take matters into their own hands. Then we are back to square one. Are the Maoist stupid because the existing constitution on Nepal don’t say the biggest party should lead the government. There is a certain percentage of the total seats be it majority or coaliation that meets the quota rules the government. Maoists are a bunch of idiots who are so used to getting things for free in the past one decade that they want everything handed down to them just like they want people in kathmandu to give them money and food from the very people they threaten. All the maoist leaders should be prosecuted in the internatial court and put away for life.
What silly foreign girls. Nepal is suffering and they’re dancing with the Maoists. It’s not fun and games for us.
Why do the Maoists have so many followers? How are they benefitting from creating the bandh? Do they really think they are doing something to help the people? It seems SO clear that what the bandhs do is just cripple the country and hurt the common people! How can Nepal’s government find a better way to deal with issues? Isn’t it true that it is not just the Maoists who call these bandhs? Now maybe I am biased as an American, but all I can say is that it sure makes me appreciate how well our government runs. Before I went to Nepal, I did not think much of my own government, but after seeing the difficulties created by petty politics, I have learned how successful our system is. I have another question: can anyone explain to me the different “platforms” of the big three? It seems to me that they all want the same thing: power. And although they pretend to care about the people, they don’t actually have any platforms to speak of. I used to think that the 2 party system we have here was not so good, because it denies so many voices, but at least they have clear platforms!!! Anyways, I would love to hear some constructive ideas in these comments if anyone has any…. I am praying for Nepal, let there be peace…
Why is NA keeping a low profile with all this bandhs?
OK… so Nepali people suffer because we have idiots for our leaders! Ok…Nepali people suffer because they are easily fooled by these corrupt leaders who will pay for their action if not in this life – then definitely in the next life-you can count on that ! Also, the Indians, Chinese and Americans are to blame.
Due to their own selfish interests, they make the poor, uneducated Nepali people suffer so much. I hate the Indians in Delhi for so much suffering of our people! Indians created and supported the Maoist! Now the Maoist are controlled by the Chinese! Americans – due to the interest with India, play second fiddle to India when it comes to Nepal. I say – Nepali brothers and sisters, screw the Americans, the Chinese and the Indians. Take control of your destiny, take control of your country, take controlof your people. Jai Nepal.
If these so called Maoists really cared about “the people” they’d let them get on with their lives, not stop them getting to work. The ones who suffer the most in these pointless strikes are the poor workers, who the Maoists are supposed to represent. Instead they just make life more difficult for everyone in their blind greed for power. Real left wingers would fight for the workers rights, not deprive them of a livelihood
All they’re likely to achieve is an anti maoist backlash from all the citizens who’ve been inconvenienced by their undemocratic actions.
Meanwhile UNMIN are keeping quiet..
What the hell the two stupid white girls are doing with maoist. They think it’s fun while whole country is going through major political crisis. If these two stupid white girls get hurt by accident, Nepal will get blam for it and the tourism will go down the hole again.
Idiots are Maoist and pathetic people who listen to their dogma. Mao have nothing to gain, but to lunch. Ultimate losers are stupid protesters who came all the way from their village in following Dog Mao. Some got sick and I am glad they learned the hard way. Some did not get proper food, water, bed to eat, drink and rest. I am so happy as they realize and will never again listen to Mao.
