India has decided to resume the export of wheat and rice to India since banning it in 2007. The Himalayan Times reports:

India had banned the export in early 2007 and had lifted the restriction for a few days in July last year before re-imposing it.

India’s decision to export the grain heralds good news because some national and international organisations have been saying that Nepal may  have to face acute food crisis in the coming days.

A High Level Political Mechanism meeting was postponed for a second time this week because Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala wasn’t feeling up to it. Republica writes:

The meeting of High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM) was postponed on Thursday for the second time owing to health woes of Nepali Congress president and chairman of the mechanism Girija Prasad Koirala.

Chhetris of Nepal protested against the the division of the country on the basis on identity on Thursday. From Republica:

The traffic of the capital has been brought to a grinding halt following the protest rallies of the Nepal Chhetri Society against the division of the country into different states on the basis of ethnicity on Thursday.

The traffic in Kailali was also brought to a stand-still after families of the victims of a hit-and-run accident obstructed traffic demanding compensation.

The irate locals and the kin of the deceased have refused to remove the victims’ bodies from the road until compensation is given and action taken against the guilty.

Six persons were killed on the spot and one critically injured when a truck plowed into them at Sripur-4, Lalpur in Kailali on Wednesday. The truck was heading to Nepalgunj from Attaria when it ran over the victims who were at a roadside shop.

Finally a horrifying piece of news just in from Palpa:

Four members of a family have been found brutally killed inside their own home at Thimure VDC-1, some 25 kilometers west of Palpa district headquarters Tansen.

Among the dead were an eight year old girl and a five year old boy, were found hacked to death in Palpa today. The police, who reached the site after 24 hours of the incident, said they may have been murdered by someone after their jewellry.
