‘Supari’ killing

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010
..................................................................................................................

A man, who has connections to Indian mafia don Chhota Rajan, has claimed responsibility for the murder of Jamim Shah. Indian Express writes:

A gangster who hails from Delhi and had links with underworld don Chhota Rajan today claimed to have murdered the controversial Nepalese media tycoon Jamim Shah for his “anti-India activities”, even as police has arrested 20 people in the case.

Avenues Television, a private TV channel claimed that it received a call from a man Bharat Nepali who reportedly hails from Delhi.

Nepal Police confirmed the report to The Kathmandu Post:

“Shah’s murder has been carried out by someone from the Chhota Rajan gang,” K. C. told the Post. He said the phone calls made to Cable Television Association and Avenues TV on Monday and interrogations of more than a dozen people indicate that the killers had arrived in Kathmandu on a ‘mission’ to kill Shah.

The killing of Jamim Shah in broad daylight in front of French Embassy and the police’s inability to apprehend the shooters, despite them being unable to start their motorbike for several seconds, was criticised even by the prime minister yesterday. Today, Nepal Police suspended four officers for failing to carry out their duties. Kantipur reports:

Four police personnel have been suspended for their carelessness in security while they were on duty when media entrepreneur and Chairman of Channel Nepal Jamim Shah was murdered in Lazimpat on Sunday.

Earlier on Tuesday, media watchdog Reporters Without Borders had asked the government to look into whether Shah’s murder was linked to his work in the media industry. From The Himalayan Times:

“Although a controversial figure, Shah made a major contribution to media development in Nepal by enabling many Nepalese to gain access to TV stations all over the world,” Reporters Without Borders said.

“So far nothing points to Shah’s media activities as the motive, but he was a very influential person as a result of his pioneering role in broadcast and cable television in Nepal,” the press freedom organisation added. “Both the perpetrators and instigators of this deliberate murder must be identified, arrested and brought to trial.”

Wah-wah! Nepal is now not only playground of foreign governments (India, Pakistan, China), but also of foreign gangs. Our politicians, who in the name of Jana-andolan, Naya Nepal etc so demoralized and weakened the security agencies of our country are themselves responsible for this humiliating crime on our streets by foreign thugs. What’s the point of Makune criticizing the police? He himself is responsible for weakening our police and security systems. He himself is Indian stooge. If order comes from Delhi, he’ll probably stop the investigations into Jamim Shah’s killing altogether!

  2. Rajiv Maharjan on Says:

Lazimapt Police are corrupted and close friendships with Lazimpat ’s Gundas and Dons.

this is very sad state of our country.why we are not taking lesson from such crime.why our irresponsible, shameless leaders aren’t doing their job properly .who is responsible for providing peace and security in the country. if they think its just a killing of one Jamim shah.then that would be a great mistake .police and intelligence forces should be made effective and up to date .
